1. Tokushima City’s Awa Odori

Tokushima City's Awa Odori is the most famous of many dance festivals held acrossJapan during the Obon season in mid August. Awa means Tokushima Prefecture while Odori means dance.

 

There are many dance events happen during the season, but it is in the evening when Tokushima’s city center shuts down. The center then becomes a big dance stage for all performers.

 

One of the famous dancing groups is called “ren”. They are famous of their simple dance, but their outfits are spectacular. The outfits are full of colors and very different from each other.

2. Gion Matsuri

In July, Japan has one of the most famous festivals called “Gion Matsuri” or the festival of Yasaka Shrine. While there are many different events that contribute to the festival, the Yamaboko Junko or the grand procession of floats is what makes this festival unique.

3. Sapporo Snow Festival

In winter, the Sapporo Snow Festival is one of the famous festivals that happen in Japan. The Snow Festivals runs on three sites: the Odori Site, Susukino Site and Tsu Dome Site. The Odori site, main site, is famous of large snow sculptures presented in Odori Park area, whereas the Susukino Site, present a hundreds spectacular ice sculptures. The Tsu Dome Site has snow slides and snow rafting activities that suits families with kids.
